Our work begins at the earliest stages of a project, where fire safety strategies are developed in parallel with architectural and engineering design. This includes the planning of means of egress, fire zoning, and compartmentation to ensure efficient evacuation and safe separation of risks. Passive protection measures such as fire-rated assemblies, façade resistance, and enclosure detailing are carefully coordinated with architectural and structural elements to ensure compliance and buildability.
Alongside passive protection, we design and integrate active fire protection systems tailored to each building’s needs. These include sprinklers, standpipes, clean agents, foam, and water mist systems, as well as advanced fire alarm and detection systems linked with building management and emergency communication networks. We also develop smoke management and pressurization strategies, validated through Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling, to maintain tenability and enable safe evacuation in complex spaces such as atriums, basements, and high-rise buildings. Emergency lighting and directional signage are designed to guide occupants with clarity when it matters most.
When projects demand solutions beyond prescriptive codes, we apply performance-based design. Through advanced fire and evacuation simulations, we study real-world fire dynamics and occupant behavior, tailoring strategies to complex geometries and landmark projects. This approach allows flexibility for innovative architecture without compromising safety.
From design documentation and authority approvals to shop drawing reviews, site inspections, commissioning, and post-occupancy audits, our involvement continues across the project lifecycle. These services are delivered in close collaboration with our sister company, PyroSyn, a specialized fire and life safety consultancy. This partnership brings the technical depth of a dedicated FLS team into Syden’s multi-disciplinary design process, giving every project a balance of integration and expertise.
